Stellenbeschreibung

Location: Vaud canton, Switzerland
Employment Type: Permanent

We are seeking an experienced scientific leader to oversee and advance mass-spectrometry-based metabolomics operations. This senior position carries significant responsibility for ensuring high-quality data generation, operational excellence, and the development of robust analytical workflows in a dynamic research and development environment.

What You Will Do

  • Lead all day-to-day operations of a high-performance metabolomics laboratory, including method development, validation, scheduling, capacity planning, vendor management, and EHS oversight
  • Manage both targeted and untargeted metabolomics workflows from sample intake through preparation, LC-MS/MS/IMS analysis, QA/QC, and reporting
  • Serve as the key point of contact for scientific, operational, and strategic lab-related topics
  • Oversee biomarker discovery activities, ensuring sound study design, rigorous QC practices, and adherence to timelines
  • Drive molecular identification efforts using MS/MS libraries and complementary analytical approaches
  • Define and maintain data standards, integrating analytical software tools and basic scripting for QC and workflow optimization (e.g., MS-DIAL, Skyline, vendor platforms, R/Python)
  • Ensure high instrument uptime through strategic preventive and corrective maintenance planning
  • Build and maintain SOPs, training materials, and operational documentation to support quality and future regulatory alignment
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of scientists, fostering a culture of accountability, scientific rigor, and operational efficiency
  • Ensure consistent documentation practices and reliable use of electronic lab notebooks (ELN)
  • Manage resource allocation, project priorities, and reporting to ensure smooth operational flow

Your Profile

  • 7+ years managing mass-spectrometry operations in metabolomics, biotech, pharma, or CRO environments
  • Deep expertise with LC-MS/MS (QTOF preferred), feature extraction pipelines, and targeted quantification methods
  • Skilled with metabolomics data tools (e.g., MS-DIAL, XCMS, Skyline, MassHunter) and basic scripting (R/Python)
  • Experience in biomarker discovery, metabolite identification, and multi-matrix sample preparation
  • Strong documentation and SOP development skills; familiarity with evolving quality frameworks
  • Proven leadership abilities and comfort working in dynamic, fast-paced environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience with clinical sample workflows, biobanks, or chain-of-custody processes
  • Exposure to orthogonal identification technologies (e.g., proteomics, glycomics, IR-based tools)
  • Background using DoE for method optimization
